“To Make the Dream of Home Ownership More Achievable for Everyone”

The title of this blog post reflects the first words of Builders FirstSource's (BFS) Vision Statement. With this ambitious goal as our guiding principle, it's evident why HomeAid America is an ideal partner for our organization.

As the nation's largest supplier of structural building products to the professional market for new construction and remodeling, BFS is proud to help HomeAid make a meaningful difference in communities across the country. I am personally honored to serve on the non-profit’s board of directors.

For nearly a decade, BFS has had the privilege of working with HomeAid, leveraging our nationwide network of distribution and manufacturing facilities to provide much-needed resources to individuals and families experiencing homelessness as they rebuild their lives.

Through a combination of monetary donations and in-kind contributions, including building materials and volunteering, we are proud to have contributed more than $500K over the lifetime of our relationship. However, numbers only tell part of the story. For me, it’s about the lives impacted.

My passion for addressing homelessness stems from my upbringing. My mother was a single parent raising four kids on her own. We lived paycheck to paycheck, and growing up, I never knew how close my family was to “losing everything.” Homelessness isn’t a choice people make. Events and circumstances – often beyond people’s control – can result in lives being irreparably changed in an instant.

My personal experience drives my commitment to making a difference, and it’s why I’m proud to work for a
company like BFS. At BFS, we understand that our role extends beyond just making profits. We believe in
giving back to the community and helping those in need.

Project Spotlight: Anisa’s Place, operated by A Village for One, serves teenage girls aged 12 to
17 recovering from commercial sexual exploitation. This shelter is a one-of-a-kind space for girls
to get the care they need to recover from sexual abuse and trauma. Builders FirstSource
partnered with HBF/HomeAid Portland to complete this project by providing in-kind donations

One of BFS’s core corporate values is “excellence.” Typically, we use this term to describe how we run our operations – ensuring we work as efficiently as possible to deliver products on-time and in-full to our customers. But excellence also extends beyond BFS facilities into the communities in which we operate. To me, excellence means conducting ourselves at the highest standards of corporate citizenship. Partnering with organizations like HomeAid and participating in charitable efforts allow both our company and individual team members to positively contribute to the greater good of the areas we serve.

Although BFS is a nationwide company with more than 575 locations across 42 states, we are focused on empowering our people to make a difference at a local level. That’s why I advocate for our nationwide network of locations to partner with their local HomeAid chapters as much as possible.

“To make the dream of home ownership more achievable for everyone” is a lofty ambition. But by focusing on those in crisis and in need within our own communities, it becomes more actionable and meaningful
